Business objectives are back in the foreground, budgets are re-examined and teams are often looking to boost visibility: new communication campaign, LinkedIn posts, emailing, advertising, redesign of media, etc. But before adding an action to the communication plan, a question deserves to be asked: does your offer really make those for whom it is aimed really want to go?

A company can offer an excellent product or a very efficient service and yet struggle to convince. Not because its offer is bad, but because its value is poorly understood. Too technical, too generic, too focused on features, or simply presented like all the others, it forces the prospect to do the work of understanding and comparing himself.

This is precisely the role of an effective communication strategy : to translate what the company knows how to do into a clear, credible and attractive proposal for its market.

Even a good offer doesn’t sell itself

“Our customers know that we are good.” Maybe. But your future customers don’t know it yet. They compare websites, presentations, sales offers and speeches that are often very similar. In this context, real quality is not enough: it must become noticeable.

Communication does not turn a bad product into a good product. On the other hand, it can prevent a great offer from seeming trivial. It highlights the problem solved, the benefit obtained, the difference with the alternatives and the evidence that makes the promise credible.

The real challenge is therefore not to “sell dreams”. It is to reduce the effort required for the prospect to understand why this offer particularly deserves his attention.

Is your value proposition really a value proposition?

A value proposition is not just an advertising hook. It simply answers three questions: who you are addressing, what result or benefit you bring and why your way of doing it is worth choosing.

Many companies answer the question “what do we do?” very well, and much less well at
“What does our customer gain from it?” This is where attractiveness comes into play.

“We support companies with customized solutions and an experienced team” can be perfectly true. The problem is that hundreds of competitors can write the exact same sentence. A value proposition becomes strong when it allows the customer to recognize their problem and quickly understand the specific value of the proposed answer.

The customer buys a profit, not your service catalog

An offer described solely by its characteristics forces the prospect to translate these characteristics into benefits himself. The more difficult this translation is, the slower the decision and the risk of the prospect fleeing increases.

An industrial SME can talk about technology, production capacity or certification. Its client may above all seek to reduce its deadlines, secure its supply or reduce the risks of non-compliance. A consulting firm can detail its methodology. Its prospect may be looking above all to make a decision faster, avoid a costly mistake or relieve an overwhelmed team.

Characteristics are necessary to prove. Profits are necessary to make people want to do it.

6 signs that your communication is trivializing your offer

The first sign is that your competitor could be repeating your homepage almost word for word. If your logo is replaced by theirs and the speech still works, your differentiation is probably too low.

The second sign is that you’re talking more about yourself than your customer’s problem. The company’s history, expertise, and values matter, but they become really interesting when they explain what they change for the customer.

Third sign: your offer requires a long oral explanation to be understood. If the salesperson must systematically repair what the site or the brochure does not explain, the problem is not only commercial.

Fourth sign: price comes before value. When the prospect does not clearly understand what he earns, the rate naturally becomes his main criterion of comparison.

Fifth sign: the evidence is invisible. Customer cases, figures, testimonials, references, certifications, results or methodology must appear at the moment when the prospect is looking for reassurance.

Sixth sign: each channel tells the story of the offer differently. The site says one thing, LinkedIn puts forward another, and the salespeople use their own argument. Consistent repetition builds perception; dispersion weakens it.

Why Your Competitors May Look More Attractive Without Being Better

The winning competitor is not always the one with the best expertise. They may simply be the one whose offer is the easiest to understand, compare and defend internally.

Especially in B2B, your contact person is not always the only one to decide. Sometimes they have to explain your solution to their management, purchasing or other business lines. A clear value proposition gives them the arguments they need to become your ambassador in their own decision-making process.

Being understandable is therefore already a competitive advantage.

Price: a poorly valued offer almost always seems more expensive

Two offers with the same price can produce very different perceptions. When the expected results, expertise, method and evidence are visible, the price has a context. Without this context, it becomes an isolated number.

Valuing an offer is not about artificially justifying a price. It is a question of giving the prospect enough information to evaluate what he is really buying: result, security, time saving, support, expertise, quality or risk reduction.

The more interchangeable your offer is in its presentation, the more the comparison shifts towards price.

Does your site present your offer or help you choose it?

The website plays a decisive role here. It should not be just a digital brochure. Its structure, content, evidence and calls to action must accompany the prospect in his understanding and buying process. When a site no longer reflects the company’s offer or evolution, a website redesign can be an opportunity to simultaneously rework the speech, the user journey and the conversion.

The creation of a tailor-made website must be based on this logic: to present products and services to the target customer in an optimal way, rather than simply filling pages.

How to make an offer more attractive without changing the product or service

Start with the customer, not the company. Rephrase their problem in their words, identify the outcome they are looking for, and prioritize the benefits. Only then comes the method, features, and features.

Also choose what you want to make memorable. A company cannot simultaneously be the most expert, the fastest, the most innovative, the closest, the most economical and the most personalized. By wanting to claim everything, it no longer owns anything. This is where the definition of positioning and key messages is of paramount importance.

Finally, organize the evidence around the promise. A claim without proof is still a business pitch. A promise backed by results, benchmarks, and examples becomes credible.

This consistency must then be reflected in the content published. A digital content strategy allows you to delve deeper into customer problems, demonstrate expertise and gradually strengthen the site’s strategic pages.

The back-to-school test: does your offer pass these 7 questions?

Take your homepage, sales presentation or main offer and look at it as if you were discovering the company today. In less than a minute, can you understand: who is the offer for? What problem does it solve? What concrete benefit does it bring? Why is it different? Why can we believe you? What is the next step? And above all, does the speech make you want to know more?

If several answers require the intervention of a salesperson to become obvious, you probably have room for improvement. And it doesn’t necessarily require you to review your product: sometimes you first need to review the way you tell it.

At the start of the school year, communicating more is not always the priority

Before increasing a media budget, launching a new campaign or producing more content, make sure that your value proposition is clear enough to turn this visibility into commercial interest.

Altosor Communication supports companies in their positioning and communication strategy in order to align their offer, discourse, image and digital tools with their development objectives.

FAQ: value proposition and attractiveness of the offer

What is a value proposition?

A value proposition clearly explains which customer an offer is aimed at, what problem it solves, what benefits it brings and why it deserves to be chosen rather than an alternative.

Should you lower your prices to make an offer more attractive?

No. A price drop can even worsen the perception of value.
